Red Compartida reaches more than 51 million people: ALTÁN starts commercial operations in Hermosillo and San Luis Potosí

  • Hermosillo and San Luis Potosí, together with their metropolitan areas and rural towns, get the 4.5G connectivity of Red Compartida. 
  • Both commercial launches together reach more than 1 million 737 thousand people, of which more than 288,000 are in localities with less than 10 thousand inhabitants.
  • ALTÁN’s LTE commercial operations reach 25 markets nationwide, 43 Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) and more than 3,370 towns with “high” and “very high” marginalization.
  • The National coverage of Red Compartida reaches more than 51 million people (45.5% of the total population of Mexico), over 9.5 million people located in areas of less than 10,000 inhabitants.
  • For the 50% milestone accomplishment in course, Red Compartida will reach almost 60 million people (more than 11.5 million in localities of less than 10 thousand inhabitants), in a total of over 29 commercial markets, 56 touristic towns and almost 19,000 rural towns.
  • October 31st, 2019. – ALTÁN Redes, the Mexican company responsible for the deployment and operation of Red Compartida, the country’s wholesale LTE mobile broadband network, begins its commercial operation in Hermosillo and San Luis Potosí, as well as in their urban and rural nearby areas. The commercial launch of these two markets jointly covers more than 1 million 737 thousand people, including more than 288 thousand in localities with less than 10 thousand inhabitants, which add to the most recent launches to cover more than 51 million people nationwide with 4.5G connectivity.

    With the commercial operation at ‘The City of the Sun” (Hermosillo), ALTÁN provides coverage to more than 660 thousand people in 461 localities in the Mexican northeastern state of Sonora, of which more than 69 thousand are located in towns of less than 10 thousand inhabitants. 

    In the city of San Luis Potosí, the network covers more than 1 million 77 thousand people in 417 localities of the state in the center of the country, of which more than 219 thousand are located in populations of less than 10 thousand inhabitants, including 91 classified by the Mexican National Population Council (Conapo) of “high” and “very high” marginalization, places that without Red Compartida presence would continue with poor or no Internet connectivity at home, business or mobile. 

    Red Compartida has a high sense of social inclusion and -in addition to its quality obligations, which require it to offer the best benefits for end-users-, population coverage requirements to reach 92.2% of the inhabitants by 2024 (at least 15% of it must be in areas of less than 10,000 inhabitants). Under his precept, 16.6% of the total covered in the two states is located in populations of less than 10,000 inhabitants. 

    With this launch, the goals of coverage of broadband internet Access have advanced and competitiveness is promoted. These are objectives established for Red Compartida by the Government of Mexico, which will help bring Internet for all its citizens.

    Mexican private company that develops and operates Red Compartida, the most important telecommunications network in recent years in Mexico.
