Red Compartida expands its coverage in the north of the country: It opens its commercial operation in Chihuahua

1 August, 2019

  • In Chihuahua (capital) and its conurbation areas, more than 732 thousand inhabitants are covered, of which more than 32,000 are located in towns of less than 10,000 inhabitants with 4.5G connectivity.
  • With this launch, ALTÁN has commercial operations in 18 markets nationwide, 39 Pueblos Mágicos and more than 3,100 locations of “high” and “very high” marginalization.
  • Its national coverage now reaches more than 45 million people (+ 40% of the population of Mexico).
  • By October 2019, Red Compartida will reach almost 60 million people (more than 11.5 million in populations of less than 10,000 inhabitants), 29 markets, 56 Pueblos Mágicos, and almost 19,000 rural populations.

Chihuahua, July 31, 2019. ALTÁN Redes, the Mexican company responsible for the deployment and operation of Red Compartida -the country’s wholesale mobile broadband Network- begins its commercial offer in Chihuahua (capital) and in its conurbation and rural areas, in order to provide 4.5G connectivity to more than 732,000 inhabitants; of which 32,000 are located in towns with less than 10,000 inhabitants.

With this launch, ALTÁN Redes reaches 183 locations in the state, including areas classified as with “high” and “very high” marginalization by the Consejo Nacional de Población (Conapo), places that without Red Compartida would continue with a deficient or null connectivity to surf the Internet from a fixed device at home or business, or from mobile devices.

Chihuahua is one of the new markets that ALTÁN adds to its coverage in its task of reaching 50% of the population, three months ahead of the established in its deployment calendar. With this market, Red Compartida begins its coverage expansion in the north of the country, which has already offered services since March 2018 in Monterrey and its surrounding areas, as well as in the Pueblos Mágicos of Linares and Santiago, located in Nuevo León.

It is important to highlight that Red Compartida, with its high sense of social inclusion, has established population coverage obligations to reach 92.2% of the inhabitants in 2024, in addition to quality obligations that require it to offer the best benefits for end-users.

With this launch, the broadband Internet coverage goals are advancing and competition in the market is being promoted; both objectives established by the Government of Mexico to Red Compartida, which will contribute to bring Internet to everyone.
