5 June, 2018

Mexico City, Mexico. January 24th 2017. ALTÁN Redes S.A.P.I. de C.V. and Organismo Promotor de Inversiones en Telecomunicaciones (Promtel) have signed today the Public-Private Partnership Agreement, which formally initiates one of the largest telecommunication projects in the history of Mexico, Red Compartida. This wholesale broadband network will allow 92.2% of the country’s population to have access to some of the best communications technology available worldwide.

As of today, the undertakings and efforts needed to deploy the Red Compartida will begin with operations commencing as of March 31st, 2018.

The Public-Private Partnership model is considered to be optimal in order garner state-provided assets, such as radio frequency, but requires a strong additional private investment, which can only be achieved through partnerships in the private sector.

To sign the agreement, ALTÁN Redes and Promtel were granted on 17 January 2017 the necessary concession licenses by Mexico’s Federal Institute of Telecommunications.
